After completing all chapters in this book and discussing the effects of many items on children, what do you feel is the single most influential item on children today?
I feel that the single most influential item on children today has to be the media. Most parents are working today to keep food on the table and often times to cut back on expenses parents use the television, computers, or other electronic devices as babysitters. In turn, children think that what they see and hear is the right thing to do and therefore they model their own lives after things they read, see, and hear. In the book I believe that the most influential item had to be peers as strange as that may sound. The violence, tragedy, and helplessness that occurred in this book was terrible and this unfortunantleystill exists today.
I agree that media is the most influencial thing on children today and parents are not aware of how strong its presence is on their children. I also think it is interesting that peers are suppose to be the most influencial on children, but it seems that children are spending less time with other children and occupying themselves with various type of media that aid in their limited social interactions.
